Courses Run By Makhanlal Chaturvedi R.P.S Vishwavidyalaya,
As per long the term vision envisaged and developed by the Expert Vision Committee, the university has started several innovative courses. Most of the course structures are altogether new and have been started for the first time by any University in the country. The courses cover various faculties viz, Journalism, Mass Communication, Library and Information Science, Advertising & Public Relations, Broadcast Journalism, Computer Applications and Management. Presently the university is conducting the following courses in the field of computer application on the basis of the semester system1 Computer & I.T. Courses
(I) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.)
The University conducts research degree programmes leading to Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in its various disciplines. The minimum eligibility requirement for Ph. D. is master degree in various disciplines with 55% marks. However, fresh degree holders will normally be required to do course work for two years (see M. Tech. - Ph. D. programme). The requirement of course work may be reduced or waived for candidates who Already have an M. Tech or M. Phil Degree or have a minimum 5 years of industrial/work experience. Each case will be examined individually on its merits.
(II) (Master of Technology) M.Tech. -Ph.D.
The M.Tech course in designed to provide a strong foundation for Ph.D. and advanced work in computer science. This is equivalent to M.Phil. and students registering for a Ph.D. in various disciplines will normally be expected to have an M. Phil. or M. Tech.
This is two year PG course for students who have Masters degree in various disciplines (Mathematics or Statistics or Operations Research or in any branch of Science or B.Tech. or in any branch of Engineering or Master of Computer Application (MCA)) with at least 55% marks or an equivalent Grade point or average. Candidates would be required to clear an entrance test.
(III) Master of Computer Applications (MCA)
The University has started MCA Programme after seeking approval from AICTE in 1999. This is a three year Post Graduate Coerce, BCA or Graduates having Mathematics in the 10+2 Examination are eligible for Admission in this Course.
(IV) Master of Science (Information Technology) (M.Sc.(IT))
This University has also started M.I.T. Progarmming in 1999. Now this course has been renamed as M.Sc.(IT) as per the guidelines of the U.G.C. It is an advanced course in Information Technology. Student’s passing B.E. / B.Tech in Computers, B.I.T. ,B.C.A., B.Sc.(IT) and B.Sc. (Computers) or any graduate with PGDCA from a statutory University, are eligible to take admission in this course, Which is of two years duration. Admissions are made on the basis of merits.
(V) Master of Science (Computer Science) (M.Sc.(CS) )
This is a two years full time degree course designed keeping in mind the changing requirements of the students who want to shift from other disciplines to computers. While offering appropriate specialization, this course also builds the desirable characteristics of a general computing professional, skilled in various aspects of Computers. Students will be given a

Any Graduate will get the admission in the first year of M.Sc.(CS).
(VI) Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA)
This is a three year full time Degree Course in Computer Applications for the students who have passed 10+2 with minimum 50% marks for general category & 45% for SC/ST. The BCA Course was launched for the first time by the university in the year 1996 at the university teaching department. The University has hundreds of BCA Associate Institutes all over the country. This course is very popular with the student community because of its unique and most advanced curriculum which has been designed exhaustively and has been up-dated on the basis of national workshops of reputed experts, conducted by the University. The BCA Course of this University has been considered unique among all the BCA Courses being conducted at other Universities in the country.
In addition students from Commerce/Arts background have the option to select a specialized stream viz. Commerce and Management stream described in detail below.
Equally, students aiming for the MCA course have the option of selecting the Mathematics stream as detailed below.
Students selecting Commerce / Management / Mathematics stream will be required to take 5 papers in the selected stream. Thus, the students who select Commerce stream will be required to take 5 papers in the Commerce stream, students who select Mathematics stream, will be required to take 5 papers in Mathematics etc.
Those who do not opt to select any stream have the option to select some papers from mathematics and others related to computers. However, papers from Commerce and Management streams will not be available to such students.
Eligibility Criteria : 10+2 in any stream with 50% marks for general category & 45% marks for SC/ST.
(VII) Bachelor of Science (Information Technology) (B.Sc.(IT) )
This is a full time degree course, and is designed as an attractive alternative to BCA. The course has two subsidiary subjects: electronics and mathematics. The course aims to develop strong foundation, suitable for further study, leading to an M.Sc.(IT), an MCA degree, or even an M.Sc. in Electronics or Mathematics . Like the BCA this course has been designed keeping in mind the desirable characteristics of a competent computer professional.
Strict standards would be maintained to ensure quality. To enable such standards to be maintained without undue hardship to the students, multiple exit options are provided. Students will be given a degree after successfully completing 3 year.
Students who exit with a certificate or diploma will have the option to continue with the course on a part time basis and to complete the course for a degree at their own pace.
Eligibility Criteria : 10+2 with Math at the +2 stage.
(VIII) Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA)
This is a one year, part time (2-semester) Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Computer Application and is available to any general graduate. This Course has been one of the most popular ones in the field of the Computer Applications since its inception. Its course Structure covers the essential elements of Computer Programming and Application and is of use to any graduate who wishes to enhance the use of Computer in his discipline. This course has also been preferred by graduates willing to start their careers in the field of Computer at the ‘Progammer Level’
(IX) Diploma in Computer Applications (DCA)
This is a one year part time (2-semester.) Diploma Programme in Computer Applications for 10+2 candidates. This Course suitable for any 10+2 student who wishes to get himself introduced in the field of the Computer Application to support the normal discipline or to start his career as Computer Operator ,Instructor or Programming Assistant.
2 MEDIA Courses
(I) Master of Journalism (MJ)
This is two year programme offered to any graduate. This course is helpful to those graduates who aim at developing working skills for News papers, Radio, T.V. & Web Journalism. The course familiarizes students with the working of media both Print & Electronic.
(II) Master of Arts in Broadcast Journalism (MA(BJ))
This is two year programme offered to any graduate. This course provides an insight into the broadcast media and its relevance to rural and urban development and develops skills to enables to perform entry level jobs in various broadcast media institutions Radio, Doordarshan, News and Advertising units, Satellite and Cable Television Networks etc.
(III) Bachelor of Journalism (One Year) ( BJ)
This is a one year programme offered to a graduate in any discipline.
